The 2010 edition of Flussi Festival in Irpinia, Italy is approaching. I arrived yesterday and still suffering the incredible warmth of the italian summer, but the landscape is awesome.
I’ll be performing the audiovisual concert I C::ntr::l Nature on 26th August and I’ll share the stage with Menion (La Bèl Netlabel), Mokira (Raster-Noton / Milleplateaux / Type Records) and Thomas Fehlmann (Kompakt / Plug Research).
I suggest to check the complete program on the festival website as it includes many other interesting artists such as Domenico Sciajno, Murcof, Asferico, Lukid and Mount Kimbie.

Make It Yourself is an exhibition of inventive Arduino and DIY electronic-circuitry projects to accompany the major solo exhibition Recorders by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer at Manchester Art Gallery between 18 September 2010 and 30 January 2011.

A rapidly expanding community of people worldwide is taking advantage of new, cheaper technology and a growing pool of shared knowledge to make things for themselves – useful things, clever things, silly things, unique things. Make It Yourself is a ‘small but perfectly formed’ show of a handpicked half-dozen of these hand-made devices.

We are now accepting submissions of existing Arduino and DIY electronic-circuitry projects from artists, hobbyists, hackers, DIY musicians and anyone interested in making things for themselves wishing to exhibit their work as part of Make It Yourself.

We are looking for pieces that reveal and demonstrate:

---

* unique devices born out of imagination or happy accident
* how everyday artifacts actually work
* custom-made tools born out of a frustration that nothing else quite does the job
* modified consumer products that now do something their manufacturers never conceived of

Overall we are looking for inventive projects that demonstrate a wide range of function and form, simplicity and complexity, humour and intent.

We expect creators of selected works to provide a project ‘info pack’ of design schematics, component lists, code and step-by-step assembly instructions.

The meeting kicks off at 15.00 at the Electron room, CCA, Glasgow.
Meeting is free, public and open to all practitioners, beginners, artists, programmers, musicians, passionates of digital arts and simply anybody who might be interested in spending few hours patching, talking, sharing ideas, making some noise, teach and learn.

About three weeks ago me and Ioann Maria held a two days, free Pure Data workshop at Electron Club.
I gave an introduction of the graphical programming framework of Pd, audio and video real-time processing libraries and their possible applications, Ioann showed her DIY HRM – heart rate monitor – and eventually explained how to use Arduino in combination with Pd.
We had great times with folks in Glasgow and we are going to gather again this week for our second Pure Data Scots Users MeetUp. Come and join us if you’re around, the meeting is open to beginners, practitioners, passionates whoever might be interested in spending few hours chatting, patching and making some noise.

From 14:00 till open end Malte Steiner lecture about video formats, gives an overview of the free open source applications available for Linux and gives a practical demonstration from capturing via editing till finishing a DVD and online video.
Software includes Cinelerra, Kino, OpenMovieEditor and more. The workshop is free and no registration necessary but would be great if you drop an email to steiner AT block4 DOT com stating your particular interests in this workshop. Bring your laptop with an installed version of Cinelerra, internet wont be available on location. It happens to be at Unlimited Liability art store

Aim

The seminary seeks to give the participants who don’t have previous experience in programming and Live Media practice the needed theoretical and practical knowledge and skills to feel comfortable within the FLOSS creation environment. The classes’ aim is to make the participants able to understand and assimilate the diverse passages of the creation process of software ad-hoc in order to be independent during the planning and development of a FLOSS project (musical, audiovisual, multi-media or theatre pieces) using the audiovisual language.

The workshop will be preparatory to the implementation of Live Media performances realized by participants and presented in November 2010 at the “80 seconds” International Contest.

Via the music research residency program, the Department for the Coordination of Scientific and Musical Research seeks to reinforce the interaction between the scientific and musical community by appealing to the computer music community at large. This program offers scholarships to artists and young professionals wishing to take advantage of a period of residency at IRCAM in order to pursue their music research projects in a stimulating collaborative environment.
Each year – via online submission – a limited number of candidates is selected by a panel of international experts based on the following criteria: project content; scientific and artistic motivation; quality and innovative character of the project; mastery of the technologies needed for the project; demonstrated ability to manage a collaborative research project.

Each selected candidate will benefit from a residency at IRCAM for a specific period, associated with one or more of the institute’s project teams. The candidate will receive a scholarship of 1200 euros. IRCAM does not cover travel and lodging expenses.
During the research residency, candidates will work in the context of the Research and Development department in order to pursue their work. They will collaborate with members of one or more teams thus enabling them to deepen the musical and technological issues explored through experimentation as well as participate in the intellectual life of the institute.

At the end of their stay, the selected candidates will be asked to document and share the results of their work via written publications and public presentations given to the IRCAM community as well as the international computer music community at large.
