NiAVe – New INTERFACES for AUDIO VISUAL Expression
What is it all about?
Those works focused on new musical interface design are defined to be new interfaces for musical expression, where you can read ‘new’ as ‘innovative’. A great and historical meeting/conference focuses its activities around this topic, is called NIME.
Inspired by this stimulating research in the musical field i started wondering… what about a NiAVe?
Simply a New Interface for Audio Visual Expression not focused on audio processing, but rather on creating new ways to inter-connect and relate image, sound and the human being. I discovered few projects of people who work in this direction, but they are mostly artists who are creating software for their own projects and unfortunately not always an artist feels so comfortable giving away the software which his performance is built with. And this is totally understandable, suitable for discussion, but still understandable.
On the other hand, those artists who feel the importance of feeding the free diffusion of knowledge give away the softwares they build for their performance, installation, etc.. and most of the time they do it for free. And there are many more of them then you could imagine out there.
Here i come…
I use in my work self-designed softwares and i prefer to use free and open-source based enviroments to do it.
It comes naturally that i try then my best to make this softwares usable for other people as you, who feel the need to try something different, something not limited to the painful, ugly and sense-less border of proprietary softwares, something which can give you the real freedom of creation because you can modify it, expand it, de-structure it as you prefer. Your contribution will make this pieces of non-conventional softwares – or, better, non-conventional Art – keep on living and developing.
